The Mayor has pledged to create well paid, skilled jobs for young people, regardless of their background or where they live.

To help achieve this pledge, the expanded West Yorkshire Careers Hub will work with an additional 75 schools across the region, on top of the 112 previous Career hub schools and Colleges, supporting them to develop relationships with businesses to make sure all young people can take their next best step.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire said

“Good careers advice can be truly transformative. It can open young people’s eyes to opportunity they’d not previously seen, and it can help enable people to reach their full potential.  I’ve often said that I want to create a gold standard careers service right here in West Yorkshire. I want our young people – and their parents – to truly understand the incredible opportunities that are available on our doorstep”

Nicola Hall, Director of Education at the Careers and Enterprise Company said

"The expanded hub is going to make a major difference to the lives of young people across West Yorkshire. By building on the foundations and brilliant work done by the Kirklees Hub more young people across the region will get access to 21st Century Careers Education.

By bringing together the worlds of education and employment we can help young people, especially those who face additional barriers, to get the opportunities, skills and experiences they need to thrive in the world of work.

The celebration concluded with the Good Careers Guidance Awards with 23 schools and colleges within our region who completed the self-assessment on compass and reached 100% in Good Careers Guidance in 2021/2022. Fully achieving 8 Gatsby Benchmarks in that academic year. Huge Congratulations to you all! “
