Empowering careers through collaboration

Training providers funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority are joining forces to help learners make the move into employment.

Northern College and Calderdale College have worked together on Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs) to train and recruit Learning Support Assistants for the education sector.

Additionally, Talented Training has developed a scheme in partnership with JobCentre Plus to meet the demand in industries requiring licensing and certification, such as warehouse operatives, security and traintrack engineers.

Funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority £65 million Adult Education Budget, these initiatives provide jobseekers with essential skills and a clear pathway to secure employment.

The impact of SWAPs

SWAPs provide tailored training and work experience for individuals receiving unemployment benefits, helping them gain qualifications and practical experience, significantly boosting their job prospects. Employers benefit from a pool of well-trained, job-ready candidates, making it easier to fill vacancies with skilled workers.

Success stories

Martha, who recently took part in a SWAP course at Northern College, shared her experience:

“[The two-week course] gave me the confidence to support students and help them succeed. I was very proud of myself for completing the course, and now I have a job I absolutely adore. I’d recommend this to anyone considering a career change.”

Steph, a tutor at Northern College, said:

“Martha demonstrated exceptional communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a respectful attitude. She inspired us with her enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to excellence.”

The collaboration between Talented Training, Northern College and Calderdale College, supported by funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through SWAP, is building brighter futures for both job seekers and employers.

By providing targeted training and guaranteed interviews, they are paving the way for successful careers and fulfilling job opportunities. Whether you're looking to advance your career or hire skilled professionals, SWAP could be your key to success.
