Eligibility: You must be aged 19 or older and live in West Yorkshire

First week - Monday – Friday 07:30am – 4:00pm

Second week - Monday – Wednesday 07:30am – 4:00pm

Duration: 8 days

Overview/summary of training

Roles and responsibilities

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their roles and responsibilities as a plant operator

Preparing the machine for works:

  • Name and explain the principle components, the basic construction of the machine and controls and terminology
  • Conform with manufacturers requirements as per the operator’s manual, other types of information and regulations and legislation
  • Complete pre-use and running checks
  • Explain the need and function of appropriate documentation

Travelling and manoeuvring the machine:

  • Configure and set the machine for site and highway travel
  • Travel over varying terrain loading/ unloaded
  • Manoeuvre in confined areas
  • Follow given signals and instructions when travelling

Setting up for work:

  • Configure and set for all lifting, loading and transferring duties
  • Attach and remove attachments including forks for the movement of loads
  • Explain actions for hazards, unground and overhead services
  • Follow given signals and instructions during work activities

Working tasks:

  • Lift and move various loads up to full extension and working height of the tele-handler
  • Transfer and place loads accurately at given locations
  • Place and remove loads from a vehicle
  • Maintain safe working situations

Completing work:

  • Maintain safe and tidy working areas

Shutting down:

  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures

Explain loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting

Outcome

On passing the test NPORS or CPCS Trained Operator Cards will be issued.

What next?

On completion of the course, you will be able to operate a Telehandler onsite and manoeuvre slung loads around the site. This course is ideal for those working in the construction industry wanting to upskill from labouring posts to improve their skills and career prospects as a Telehandler Operator.

Once you have gained the Trained Operator Card (valid two years) and gained a minimum of 6 months machine experience, you can further your learning by enrolling onto the relevant NVQ which on completion allows them to apply for a 5-year Competent Operator Card.
