Overview/summary of training

This Skills Bootcamp will give you the specialist skills needed to work on electric buses, trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles. All training is delivered in person at our fully equipped workshop facilities, giving you valuable hands-on experience with real vehicles and components. 

You will work towards the successful completion of online and practical assessments to achieve –  

  • IMI Level 3 Award in Heavy Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement  
  • IMI Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components. 

Throughout the course, you will: 

  • Understand the fundamentals of electric vehicle (EV) systems and safety 
  • Learn how to diagnose and repair electric powertrains, motors, batteries and charging systems 
  • Develop your knowledge of high-voltage safety and component testing 
  • Complete practical training aligned with current industry standards, including IMI-accredited content 

You’ll also benefit from direct access to employers through guest speakers, site visits, and potential mentoring – helping you build confidence, awareness, and industry connections. 

This course is ideal for individuals with experience in vehicle maintenance (cars, vans or trucks) who are looking to upskill or transition into EV specialism, as well as self-employed vehicle technicians and those seeking to enter the green transport industry.

What next?  

On completion of this Skills Bootcamp, you’ll be guaranteed a job interview with an employer in the sector. Possible outcomes include: 

  • Employment as an EV Technician or EV Service & Maintenance Engineer 
  • Progression into a higher-level role within your current workplace (e.g., Lead Technician or EV Specialist) 
  • New commercial opportunities if you’re self-employed
